Winter Whites at Ramster Hall

Such a lovely venue for a winter wedding - Ramster Hall near Chiddingfold in Surrey is a beautiful timber framed house. I say house in the loosest of terms - it has a long hall, a brick hall, a great drawing room and gardens to die for. So yes it is a house, albeit a rather grand one, but not at all stuffy - with pictures by Mr Gunn, Japanese Samurai warriors, swords and shield!

We filled the great drawing room with vases of scented freesia, roses and ranunculus - then lots & lots of candles.

We have a few days free of weddings - so it is back to the shops and preparations for Christmas.

workshops are here again

yes its that time of year when Matthew whirls and twirls around the county with foliages, berries, moss and anything else he feels inclined to use.

we are running two morning workshops on the 5th and 7th of December, its £95 and you get to make your own door garland and table arrangement.

there is even an evening workshop on 15th December, £45, when we serve warm mulled wine, delicious hot nibbles and then you get to play in the main shop and make a garland - no previous floristry experience is required. Just bring along your secateurs, apron, bag to take home all your purchases in - did I forget to mention that you even get a 10% discount on anything in the shop - excluding Matthew himself.

I just wanted to write to thank both you and Matt for doing the MOST FABULOUS flowers for my wedding. The church was absolutely divine. It looked and smelt so fantastic. Honestly I'm running out of adjectives! Everyone commented on how fantastic they were and loved how fragrant the church smelt. It was simple, elegant but incredibly striking.

On top of that, the bouquets, in particular mine, were everything that I hoped they would be and more. My bouquet was the dream that I have had since I was a little girl, long, flowing, stunning and I love the idea that it was put together by Matt, to marry a Matt. What a lovely, lovely idea.

I'm sure you've heard from Mum that the day was wonderful. I've attached some photos for you but I know that she's planning (or maybe has already?) to come and see you and show you the day. Make sure you have a coffee, there's a few photos!

Thank you also for the gorgeous 'Mum's flowers' - you should have seen their faces when our best man presented them to them. Great work!

The final thank you is for your patience and kindness. I'm sure you've done hundreds of weddings and so are used to all the goings on, but it meant so much to me that you made Mum feel important, calm & happy. I certainly appreciated the hug just days before the wedding! On the day itself, I was super, super calm, Mum not so much, but she got there in the end and enjoyed her day I think! I LOVED it and took in every second I could. It was a magical day.

Anyway, my huge thanks again.

If ever you make it out to Hong Kong, do let me know, we'd love to take you out for a thank you drink!

Matthew's Demonstration for Pancreatic Cancer Action

it was a great night for this locally based charity

hosted by The Park House Hotel in Bepton in their beautiful barn

the evening started with an amazing purple cocktail

questions were asked as Matthew did his stuff

do you bash the stems of your flowers?

along with exclamations of

i didn't know you could do that with those flowers.

Carnations!

Matthew made lots of arrangements, some for the hall table

others for the dining room

but my favourite was the purple one made in the charity colours

we then had a raffle

you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife it was that tense

there were some great prizes

with spa membership and overnight stay

last week we were invited by Louise Hartley to visit the family home
of Viscount Mersey, West Sussex's newest wedding venue.

We certainly weren't disappointed.

The views were simply breathtaking

As we gazed across the croquet lawn,
there was a group of hungry seagulls by Geoffrey Stinton,

and in front of us a wonderful temple.

I can just image the intimate moments that will be had here.

from here we wondered down to the Zen pond - need I say any more

I can confess I did have a bit of a Mr Darcy moment here...

and then we found the gnome-ary

I bet there will be quite a few big kids that end up playing with these cheeky guests

we continued our tour round to the formal garden with its Greek loggia

which can be used for outside wedding ceremonies

we can't wait until we can decorate this beautiful area

I am thinking honeysuckle, scented roses, peonies, ivy and lots of candles

I was quite blown away by the gardens - with clipped box hedges,
ducks & roses

but don't just take my word for it

I met Sam back in February, it was a beautiful sunny spring day - it was a very memorable day - my consultation took all of three minutes.

Yes, I did say three minutes, not three hours...

Sam just said

"create me a beautiful summery wedding"

and gave me a list of table numbers, buttonholes and bridesmaids

the rest was up to us.

Matthew was in his element -

so many beautiful summery flowers to choose from,

on the other hand - I am a control freak - I like details,

I like to cross check these details,

I have files and clipboards to put detailed notes on,

I have colour coded notes,

I am the one at base who makes sure that everything is just so,

I was a fish out of water....

but once I saw Sam's bouquet I melted,

it was perfect and just what I could choose

well done Matthew, you've done it again.

Antonia was my model this weekend - we have named her Delphine

in honour of Delphine Manivet

the rain stayed away for most of the day

the workroom at Spriggs is only slightly less chaotic -

Jo was in her element when she had at least

five buckets of foliage to work from,

even for the smallest of arrangements.

The put-by flowers were always a target for Jo's attention

"Matthew won't know I've used just 1 or 2"

so we celebrated her life by filling st. laurence's church in Lurgashall

with some of her favourite flowers & foliages

we all cried - tears of joy & sorrow

fill a large vase with a sphere of roses
cover the cloth with petals &candles in narrow vases

stand back & admirer

then fill tall vases with roses & orchids

tulips & ranunculus

then some smaller vases to match

stand well back....

check that all is in order

the new vases had just arrived from our last trip to Holland, when

a timely phone call from Donna at Goodwood House

"can you do something with WOW for a wake?"

answer

"yes - any special requests?"

with vases unpacked,

orchids & green goddess arum lilies,

hydrangeas & lilac,

Matthew and his team get to work to create this majestic displays.

I enjoyed a walk around Petworth one lunch time last week &

could not resist taking some pictures

of these magnificent blooms

& a hint of things to come with the wisteria

it was a stunning day to get married at Goodwood House

vases were filled with blossom &peonies

solomon seal &virburnum

blue bells and lilac

I am rather fond on the cake stand - red shoes

and this is a taster of what the bride carried

but so say the perfume was perfect

would be an understatement.
